I think we can all agree that the biggest fashion hype has to be Fashion's Night Out! Just think about the tons and tons of retailers that put in so much effort to create such a wonderful night. Many celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Heidi Klum, and Tyra Banks all participate in this event by being a source to drag consumers into their store- IT WORKS! Looking back at my first post about Fashion's Night Out, there are also music, free food, special offers, and more! But this event went to the next level when a new online experience of speaking with models and designers happened for the very first time! This Fashion's Night Out at Guess in Soho a designer for Guess asked for you to purchase a plain T-shirt and he would design it into a dress/shirt/ skirt/etc. It was incredible! What a way to add hype by making the consumer feel so special!
But aside from Fashion's Night Out, Facebook is a huge hype for fashion. I must "like" about ten retailers a day just because their default picture is a beautiful garment! This is a great way for consumers to see the upcoming fashion for the retailer/designer! About 15 years ago there was no such thing of a site that would drawn in consumers on a single web page allowing comments to be made by buyers!

Victoria's Secret-My Favorite! |
So here it goes, let's search Armani!
And just look its Armani's Fall 2011-2012 Collection! It is like your front row seat to this event!
Another new, great way to hype up fashion is through product placement. Just look at Sex in the City. All I know is that after watching this movie I want to purchase by own pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes! The outfits worn by Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charolette bring fashion to a new level. I remember when Sex in the City 2 came out, loads of women were going to the movie theaters decked out in gorgeous outfits! What a way to hype up fashion, especially for the designers that these four characters wore!

Celebrity endorsements are a huge way to create hype for a fashion company, but I think Lady Gaga is the Queen of this. Do we all remember her famous meat dress?

I hope it didn't smell like meat!! |
So what do you think is the most successful way to hype up fashion? I personally think Lady Gaga has the right idea. In order to hype up fashion, companies need to be different and stand out.
This is such an interesting post!!!!!! You have given us so much information in just one post! Thats amazing. I have been a great follower of Fashion Night Outs. I guess all of us would be It has been really effective in making a brand more recognizable. Also, there is a lot of media coverage that goes along with it. Waiting for FNO 2012!!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Gaga to a certain extent. Standing out isn't the MOST inportant thing, but it is a pretty big factor. I believe that first and foremost the best thing a brand can do is develop a good reputation based on the quality of their product. If consumers appreciate the product, it will keep them coming back, and eventually word will spread. lady Gaga's approach is great for building initial hype, although it is not ideal for hanging on to an audience past a certain point. For example, we come for the crazy costumes, but we stick around for the incredible music!
