FASHION & MUSIC!

I can't out into words how much fun I had in such a tough project for my creative presentation class!

For my final project I decided what better thing to do that to compare music and fashion. Both are in our everyday lives! I took some of the Top 40 music videos throughout the years (mostly present) and created my own little runway! This video shows you that you can get the trends from music videos for less and probably from your own closet!

So please take a look at my video! You might just be able to relate!

So does fashion really effect music? Or does music effect fashion? It's your call!

"Hype" it up!

The greatest thing is that fashion is constantly changing! Every single day there is a chance for a surprise! So fashion alone has it's own hype. But just think about the tons of work from social media to special events to celebrity endorsements that create a hype for fashion!

I think we can all agree that the biggest fashion hype has to be Fashion's Night Out! Just think about the tons and tons of retailers that put in so much effort to create such a wonderful night. Many celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Heidi Klum, and Tyra Banks all participate in this event by being a source to drag consumers into their store- IT WORKS! Looking back at my first post about Fashion's Night Out, there are also music, free food, special offers, and more! But this event went to the next level when a new online experience of speaking with models and designers happened for the very first time! This Fashion's Night Out at Guess in Soho a designer for Guess asked for you to purchase a plain T-shirt and he would design it into a dress/shirt/ skirt/etc. It was incredible! What a way to add hype by making the consumer feel so special!

But aside from Fashion's Night Out, Facebook is a huge hype for fashion. I must "like" about ten retailers a day just because their default picture is a beautiful garment! This is a great way for consumers to see the upcoming fashion for the retailer/designer! About 15 years ago there was no such thing of a site that would drawn in consumers on a single web page allowing comments to be made by buyers!

Victoria's Secret-My Favorite!
This idea of spreading fashion throughout Facebook lead to Youtube. Many fashion shows to trunk shows to reviews to stylist opinions are shown on Youtube. Try to search any specific garment in Youtube and I bet you will be satisfied with your answer!

So here it goes, let's search Armani!

And just look its Armani's Fall 2011-2012 Collection! It is like your front row seat to this event!

Another new, great way to hype up fashion is through product placement. Just look at Sex in the City. All I know is that after watching this movie I want to purchase by own pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes! The outfits worn by Miranda, Carrie, Samantha, and Charolette bring fashion to a new level. I remember when Sex in the City 2 came out, loads of women were going to the movie theaters decked out in gorgeous outfits! What a way to hype up fashion, especially for the designers that these four characters wore!

Beautiful!

Celebrity endorsements are a huge way to create hype for a fashion company, but I think Lady Gaga is the Queen of this. Do we all remember her famous meat dress?

I hope it didn't smell like meat!!
When I first laid eyes on this, I thought wow what a way to challenge fashion. Lady Gaga might not create hype for individual fashion companies, but she sure does create hype for the fashion world. Lady Gaga is creating her own fashion world that is different by challenging the status quo. This could furthermore challenge and influence fellow designers!

So what do you think is the most successful way to hype up fashion? I personally think Lady Gaga has the right idea. In order to hype up fashion, companies need to be different and stand out.

Keep Looking at the Kardashians!

First of all I would like to apologize for my obsession with the Kardashian family, but how great of an idea to create a look book including the celebrities themselves! Posted on E! Online on the reality show's tab you will find the look book! This digital look book actually looks like a book that opens to different  showing what jewelry and shoes match which each look. Also a comment from one of the Kardashians such as "That's my favorite look!"

Check out some other looks, I have the black jacket!!!

Check out the online/digital lookbook here: http://www.eonline.com/on/shows/kardashians/kollection.html

This look book might not be as relevant as other famous designers, but it does meet the requirements of a typical look book. I remember checking this out and loving the garments that I went straight to Sears and bought a jacket and skirt!!

So what do you guys think of this look book? Did you have the urge to go to Sears like I did?!

I Can Hear The Bells!

This might be hard to believe, but I have NEVER been to a trunk show! If I ever had the chance to go to a trunk show I would definately make it in the bridal industry! Just think, every bride wants to feel special and like a princess for their big day. What is better way than to get special treatment, get looks right off the runway, and even meet the designer at a trunk show?!? NOTHING!!!

Look at what Belle Vie Bridal has to say about trunk shows:

Trunk shows allow the store to preview and for customers to purchase garments before it is available to the public or just as it comes of the runway! Usually small businesses have the designer to be at the trunk show events to increase sales!

Recently, we all watched Kim Kardashian get married! For those who aren't aware, her dress was by Vera Wang. I don't know about you, but I wished that I could have a dream wedding like her! Looking at the Vera Wang trunk show below, I know that I could! Vera treats not only Kim as a princess, but every potential bride. Just look at the chocolates, wine, tons of beautiful dresses, entertainment, styling assistance, and much more! It is such an intimate setting, that it makes shopping for your day well worth it.

Trunk shows are important to the consumer because it makes them feel special! But think about the designer/brand. It builds such brand loyalty. Designers get to see what their customers want, get to know their customers, and of course get to hear tons of compliments all night long! In such an intimate setting with making consumers happy, sales are known to increase as well!

So have any of you been to a trunk show? Am I the only one that wishes to attend a bridal trunk show?

Oh well look here, I personally invite you to Vera Wang's Spring 2012 Trunk Show! Let's GO!

It's no longer a secret!

We all are well aware of traditional runway shows with tons of garments running down the cat walk with many celebrities and fashion icons around. We all have seen designers who changed this traditional style like Dior. But for me Victoria Secret is a very important run way show because it made the runway a television event!

Just think about all the people like me that don't really get a chance to go to a runway show. Victoria's Secret allows me to get a front row seat from my couch to see their runway show!My favorite Victoria's Secret show is 2010- 2011. The models walk freely with their own style. Their is tons of music, lights flashing, and people dancing! By being on television, this does take the fashion runway to a whole new level. You get to see all of the "behind the scene" events. The models get to speak about the pieces instead of being just a "human hanger" in other runway shows. Victoria's Secret has created a great brand loyalty through these fashion shows. Not to mention having celebrities like Katy Perry sing on the runway! Victoria's Secret allowed for their runway show to be their trademark as well as their angel wings! Victoria's Secret really pushes the envelope when it comes to runway shows.

Check out Victoria's Secret 2010-2011 show here:

Do you think broadcasting runway shows is successful?
I DO!

Check out a few of my favorite pieces from this show:
Undergarments never looked so heavenly!

A Spanish Dream!
Victoria's Secret show loves to tell a story! In this show you see the character figures to the variety of sports. Some might say it is over the top, but that's what makes this show so different and important. Your on TV! Everything needs to be a bit more dramatic! I can't wait to see Victoria's Secret 2011-2012 show!

Fall'ing in Love with Color!

In Fall 2012 we will be seeing tons of  warm, cool, and neutral colors from shades of blue, red, purple and much more! According to StyleSight, in Fall 2012 we will see colors in categories labeled "Raw Energy," "Sensing Matter," "Wild Craft," and "Digital Dimension." But let's take a look at all of the colors in general that will appear in Fall 2012:
Warm colors will be full of arterial reds  to the beautiful golden yellows. The cool colors will include the deeper purples to the interesting forest green colors. The neutral shades will include the basic blacks and whites with an additional rose hues to match your skin color!

I knew Lauren Conrad would show off this neutral color trend! She's just a bit early!

In the "Raw Energy" category, reds will be dominant.

In the "Sensing Matter" category, shades of brown will relate to the earth color tones. Look below, these colors really show colors close to nature!

In the "Wild Craft" category, show your happy side the brighter colors to bring out your wild side. Shades of green and deep purples are flourishing.

In the "Digital Dimension" category colors rely on the classic colors of white, black, and gray. I don't know about you, but black never leaves my closet! It is always and forever here to stay!

When looking at the color trends of Fall 2012 one might think they are similar to past seasons, but the truth is that for Fall 2012 that hues will be a bit deeper. Thanks to StyleSight, they have listed a great show of comparing the color trends from Fall 2011- Fall 2012. Let's look at a few:

In Fall 2012, colors will darken to racecar, picante, and zinfandel.

Look at the great hue of rich blackberry and burgundy!
Dark teal, forest, and herbal greens will be all around Fall 2012.
But just remember to keep these top fall colors apart of your wardrobe for Fall 2012:
1. Arterial Reds
2. Golden Shades
3. Cool Matter

Jil Sander: Thinking Positive

What a great classic look seen on the runway for Spring 2012 from the Jil Sander runway by Raf Simons during the Milan Fashion Week. A great report by Cathy Horyn from the NY Times commenting on the "modernist view."I love the word choices chosen by Cathy Horyn. She includes every since detail that I didn't even need to see photos from the runway. I imagined them in my head! Her comparison to movies and art was a great idea! Check out the original blog here!

Article:
"His aim this season was to consider a key element of Jil Sander’s minimalist fashion — the white cotton shirt — and then break away from its pure form. In a sense, he has been working up to this approach over the past few seasons, beginning with his breakout spring 2011 show based on classic haute couture shapes, yet done in neon-bright synthetics that related to street wear and comfort. Another starting point this season was how women treat themselves in a beauty salon, the positive aspect of caring for oneself in an atmosphere of other women. The third element expressed in the show was marriage — the closing long dresses in white cotton that again referred to the basic white shirt."
